Traffic Safety Program

Accidents due to speeding and careless driving account for the majority of all vehicle accidents.

The City of Charlack's new Traffic Safety Program is designed to reduce the number accidents that occur on our roadways due to careless and high speed driving.

This new technology uses camera's and lasers to detect the rate of speed of all vehicles traveling on roadways in our venue. The program is designed to save lives of those traveling or simply going to work each day. Many police officers, highway workers and others throughout history have been in serious or fatal accidents due to people who don't seem to obey to the posted speed limits.

Prior to the City adopting this program, a survey was done for a 60 minute time period on northbound and southbound HWY 170. In a one hour study, there were 117 vehicles that traveled at 15 miles over the posted speed of 60 miles per hour. These 117 vehicles passed through our study traveling at 75 miles per hour (or more) in one hour, which equates to almost 2 extremely dangerous drivers on Highway 170 every minute. In addition, there were an additional 800 vehicles traveling between 70 and 75 miles per hour in the same 60 minute survey. The results of these surveys clearly confirm the decision made by the City of Charlack that this traffic safety program was needed.
